About

Carrie Alderfer has been a “color addict” for as long as she can remember. She graduated with honors from the University of Alabama in with a B.A. in Art. Following college, Alderfer was employed as a graphic designer, web programmer and art director. She started her own business, ChromAddict Studio, in 2002.

Alderfer’s love of nature fuels her work and feeds her desire to express its beauty, wisdom, and relevance. Infused with color, movement, emotion and precious details that capture the spirit and essence of living things, her works emphasize our shared connections and experiences. She weaves stories of family, community, love, loss, and loneliness through her expressive animals and plants and binds us to the victories and struggles of all life.

Her style is colorful and dynamic. Influenced by her work as a graphic designer and her love of the historical art movements of art nouveau, mid-century modern, and contemporary realism, she infuses her pieces with strong lines, emotional colors, and approachable subjects.

Alderfer’s work has been included in publications such as “Colored Pencil Magazine”, “Ann Kulberg’s Color! Magazine”, “Art Galleries and Artists of the South”, Strokes of Genius 6 and 10, and Colored Pencil Dogs & Cats. She was the Featured Artist in the 2016 Spring Edition of the Strathmore Artist Newsletter. Exhibits include Colored Pencil Society of America’s International Exhibition 2015 and 2017, Special Merit Awards in various exhibits on Light Space & Time Online Gallery, and regional art festivals and juried shows.

Currently, ChromAddict has a studio in Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment, the largest privately owned Arts Center in the United States, located in Huntsville, AL. She lives just to the east of Huntsville, AL, with her husband, two boys, and six cats. You can follow her creative adventures at chromaddict.com and facebook.com/chromaddictstudio.
